Paya Besar Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Manan Ismail passed away at his home in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday evening.

He was 70.

His brother Datuk Seri Muhammad Safian said Abdul Manan, who is Paya Besar Umno chief, said Abdul Manan died after falling in the bathroom.

"So far, the family have yet to decide where he would be laid to rest, either here or in Kuala Lumpur," he told Bernama when contacted here Monday night.

Abdul Manan was the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation chairman.

He was special secretary to Prime Minister Najib Razak from 1986 to 2004.

Abdul Manan first contested the Paya Besar seat in 2008, winning it with 19,355 votes to PKR's 10,852 votes.

He then defended his seat in 2013, winning 23,747 votes to PKR's 16,032 votes.

As his death comes more than three years after the last general election there will be no by-election held.
