Following reports that five dogs were poisoned in Lavender Heights, Seremban, police have since began investigations.

According to reports, police have urged the public to stop making these pictures viral and allow them to carry out their probe.

A man who is the owner of one of the dogs lodged a report saying that his dog and two strays were believed to have been poisoned.

We have already started our investigations and hope the public will stop sharing details of the case," said police.

The case was being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals which may extend to three years imprisonment or with a fine.

Five dogs were found dead in the neighbourhood after they were believed to have been poisoned between Jan 1 and 5.

An animal lover, who only wished to be known as Narin, said the dogs were believed to have been fed food laced with rat poison.

"Four were strays and one actually had an owner.

"Based on the information we received, we know who did this and we want the authorities to investigate them for animal cruelty," he said.

Narin said volunteers and the owner of one of the dogs buried the carcasses to prevent them from decomposing in the open.

He said it was sad that some people had decided to take the law into their own hands by poisoning the dogs.

He said the Malaysian Animal Welfare Association had submitted proposals to Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin on ways to check the problem with strays but nothing has come out of it.
