Burglary suspect caught and beaten up by villagers

A 21-year-old man learnt the lesson of his life when villagers caught and beat him following  his bungled attempt to rob a house at Kampung Sungai Tapah Tambahan, Ipoh on Sunday night.

The 9.15pm incident saw the suspect attempting to flee the scene after  into a house at the village in Jelapang.

According to The Star, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said the 31-year-old resident, who had arrived home to see the door ajar, was threatened by the suspect who held a knife to the victim's throat.

"After the resident's sister-in-law, who lives next door, called out to him, the suspect got frightened and fled.

"The resident gave chase while shouting for help to catch the suspect," he said.

"The suspect was caught by the neighbours and beaten up," he added.

ACP Mohd Ali said the man suffered bruises on his face.

"He was already tied up when police arrived," he said, adding that the matter would be investigated under Section 392 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery or with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt.
