MALAYSIANS have taken to cyberspace calling for Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba to quit after he announced that Ministers are only required to observe a three-day quarantine upon returning from official trips abroad. Non-Ministers, however, will continue to be be quarantined for 10 days.

Twitter users have used the hashtags #AdhamBabaLetakJawatanto and #AdhamBabaOUT pile on the pressure for the gaffe-prone Dr Adham to quit.

User @Sep9up1hwaiting tweeted: “Double standard. Seriously, gambling with people's safety and lives. ”

Another user, @darthvader said: “Such a double standart.. not suit to be minister… stupid !!”

Some reproduced old news reports quoting PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as saying that there’s no double standards in implementing Covid-19 SOPs and called Dr Adham’s latest announcement as “hypocritical”.

Yesterday, Dr Adham announced that Cabinet Ministers who returned from any official visit abroad must undergo observation for three days or undergo surveillance until discharged without endangering the public.

The order takes effect from today until Aug 1.

Muhyiddin last week visited Jakarta for two days in his his maiden overseas trip since being sworn in as PM last March.

The government had come under heavy fire over the perceived double standards in implementing Covid-19 SOPs. Last year, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali violated his home quarantine and was only slapped with a RM1,000 fine.

Other Malaysians were reported to be paying heftier fines for similar offences.

Dr Adham was also known for Covid-19 gaffes. Last year, during a TV talk show, the doctor-turned-politician told Malaysians to drink warm water to prevent Covid-19 – a practise the World Health Organisation had said was without any medical basis.
