An administrative assistant from the Pahang Land and Mines Office was found dead, believed to have been murdered at his home in Taman Pandan Indah, Kuantan.

Pahang police chief Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad said the victim was identified as M Suhairi A Wahab.

"Firemen found the victim's remains in the bedroom of a house at Lorong Pandan Indah 1/3 after they finished putting out a fire at the house. They had earlier received a call about a fire at the house.

"Apart from the burn marks, there were slash injuries to his face and head. We suspect there is a criminal element in this case,"

"Our checks later revealed that the victim also had some injuries to his body." he said.

According to The New Straits Times, Zakaria said police have detained the victim's 34-year-old housemate for questioning and were still investigating the motive of the incident.

"We are still waiting for the post mortem results that will determine the cause of death."

Meanwhile, the victim's brother, Amir A Wahab, 48, said his brother had been renting there four years ago since working at the Land and Mines Office.

"If this is confirmed to be murder, I hope the authorities will bring the culprit to justice." he said.
