Actor arrested for assaulting cop and civilian

A local actor who is known for portraying gangsters and thugs in his movies was arrested by the police on Thursday afternoon.

This after Datuk Farid Kamil was believed to have assaulted a traffic policeman before proceeding to kick a civilian at the Kota Damansara police station.

According to the Malay Mail, Farid, 37,  allegedly slapped the officer across the face while he was at the police station to lodge a report of an accident.

A police source said the suspect had entered the station with another person to loadge a report around 1.20pm whwn the incident occurred.

“When the officer questioned the suspect on how the accident took place, he instead flashed his mobile phone, showing a message that read ‘300 artistes borrowing money from loan sharks due to lack of jobs’.

“When the officer asked what the message was about, the suspect then slapped him, which was witnessed by a corporal on duty and three other witnesses,” he said.

The source said the suspect then kicked another member of the public in the station, before he was swiftly arrested.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed the incident saying it was being investigated under Section 90 of the Police Act for misbehaving in a police station and for assault.

Mohd Zani said they are awaiting the results of urine test, as investigations will are ongoing.

Farid’s first breakthrough role was when he was paired with popular actress Erra Fazira in the thriller Tujuh Perhentian in 2004.

Since then he has starred and directed in many movies which were box-office hits such as Anak Halal, Kala Bulan Mengambang, V3 Samseng Jalanan and Tombiruo.

When contacted by Malay Mail, his wife Diana Danielle declined to comment on the arrest.

“Please let us deal with the situation at hand,” Diana told Malay Mail in a text message.
