On Jan 31, about 6.50pm, a 13-year-old girl was waiting for her mother to fetch her after school at the back gate of SMK Taman Melawati in Kuala Lumpur.

According to her police report which was posted on social media, a Malay man wearing a bright coloured t-shirt, long pants and a black cap approached her.

He told her that her mother had asked him to pick her after school.

The girl felt something was not right and asked the man her mother's name, which he refused to answer.

She said the man then grabbed her backpack and insisted she follow him as allegedly instructed by her mother.

The girl again asked him what her mother's name was when he suddenly stared at her, let her bag go and left the area.

About 7.10pm, her mother fetched her and she told her what happened, after which they immediately lodged a report.

Netizens expressed shock over the incident and urged schools to beef up their security, especially before and after school hours till every student leaves.
