As if the Mat Rempit problem is not enough in our country, we now have the younger version of them - the Mat Lajak.

The roads in Balik Pulau area in Penang seem to be filled with them, not only endangering themselves, but also others.

For those familiar with this area, you know how winding and hilly these roads are, with numerous blind corners.

Recently, I also rammed into several Mat Lajak who were at it in the late evening.

It was almost dark and despite my headlights, visibility was poor and none of them had lights.

If I had not noticed them at the last minute, I would have probably killed a few of them.

I know the cops conduct frequent crackdowns, but this is just not enough.

The onus on this is more on the part of the parents who have to make the effort to keep their kids off the streets.

I really hope everyone concerned can play their roles to curb this problem before some children are killed for nothing.
