I am a student counselor and have been in this profession for the last 20 years.

The major problem that haunts children these days is pressure from their parents for them to excel in their studies.

Children these days hardly even have time to breathe.

From the time school is over, they are packed with tuition classes and other activities that they do not have any time for themselves.

No matter what, children must be given some free time to do what they want.

Piling them with work and other activities will eventually lead to a burnout and in extreme cases, some children even contemplate suicide.

Parents have to accept the academic levels their children can achieve and one cannot push an average student to achieve straight As, no matter how hard they try.

If your child is not good academically, he may be good with his hands and thus, parents should look into something suitable.

Be sensitive and most importantly, make sure you always have the time to listen to your child when he needs to talk to you.

Remember, depression is a silent, but sure, killer.
