While most of us adore dogs and keep them as pets, there are those who still ill-treat and abuse these wonderful animals.

People must understand that dogs are not only kept by many as pets, but also serve humans in many ways.

Dogs are used by enforcement authorities across the world and even here in Malaysia, I was happy to read about the Sabay Fire and Rescue Department setting up a new K9 unit.

Apparently, these dogs were specially trained in The United Kingdom and were sold at RM110,000 each.

These dogs will be tasked to help in the search and rescue operations for, among others, fire and cases of missing person.

Dogs are highly intelligent animals and it is time our government came up with some stringent laws to curb their abuse.

It is really sickening to read about how these animals are treated and abused by some when they are the very ones who could well save our lives one day.
