Each time Christmas comes around, we read about the same issue - whether our Muslim brothers and sisters can wish their Christian friends Merry Christmas.

There has been plenty of controversy surrounding this and this year, I must say bravo to the Federal Territory Pejabat Mufti.

According to them, wishing each other Merry Christmas is something which should be done and there is nothing haram about it.

They said it was not only encouraged to wish each other, but also to be fair and treat all others well.

Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the greeting was merely to express good tidings and was fine as long as Muslims did not follow the religious teachings.

"We have to create more awareness on this to ensure there are no misunderstandings," he said.

As a Muslim, this is what I have been taught since young and I am grateful to this Mufti for setting things right.
