Hats off to the alertness of the kindergarten teachers.

Cops detained a man who had allegedly abused his son at their home in the Kulim HiTech Park here on Wednesday.

The incident was revealed when the five-year-old boy who attended kindergarten was seen with bruises to his face.

Police said the teacher noticed the bruises and also that the boy appeared lethargic and was coughing.

After much persuasion, the boy finally confided to his teacher that he was hit by his father and that there were bruises behind his body, hands and buttocks.

“Fear for the boy’s safety, the teacher immediately rushed him to the Kulim Hospital for treatment before lodging a police report over the incident,” police said.

According to The New Straits Times, police arrested the suspect, 35, at his house at 5.45pm yesterday.

Preliminary investigations showed the suspect had allegedly hit his son with a plastic hanger because the victim was stubborn and refused to listen to his advise.

“The suspect was later released on police bail.

“His son has been placed under the care of the Welfare Department,” said police, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.

I want to say a big thank you to the teachers who could have simply ignored the matter as it did not concern them.

Everyone must play their roles to fight child abuse - do not let innocent children suffer for nothing.
