Two Bruneian youths, Awang Khairul Anwar bin Karia and Dayangku Siti Bazilah binti Pengiran Hj Zahari, will be leaving for China next month to further their studies at the Beijing Normal University and Dalian University of Technology.
The Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Madam Tong Xiaoling, awarded the Chinese Government scholarships to the bright students during a ceremony at the Chinese Embassy in Jalan Muara yesterday.

The scholarships are in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on higher education between the governments of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China.

Under this scheme, Bruneians will be able to further their studies at any Chinese higher learning institutions admitting international students. Among other things, the Chinese Government scholarship will cover the cost of the students' tuition fees, accommodation and medical insurance.

In an interview with the Bulletin, Khairul said that he would study very hard in China, as he does not want to disappoint his mother, Dyg Hjh Norain binti Hj Kamis.

Dyg Hjh Norain said that she was elated when she first heard the news that her son had been awarded the prestigious scholarship. She thanked the governments of Brunei and China for giving her son the opportunity to study abroad.
