UMNO is neither God nor judges
23 07 2008

Najib Tun Razak, who is incessantly linked to the murder of Altantuya Shariibuu, swore on the Holy Book, and claimed his innocence. He did it in front of 900 or so UMNO delegates.

Are those UMNO delegates God or judges? If they are neither God nor judges, why does Najib have to appear before them? Why does Najib fear being questioned in a real court? And he ignores the court of public opinion.

Raja Petra Kamaruddin does not fear going to court, it seems. And he has the entire government machinery against him! Yet, he is making more and more revelations.

Today, Najib is being exempted to appear in court to face questions on his alleged involvement with Altantuya:

Justice Mohd Zaki Yasin said that it was not necessary to call in Najib or to recall Balasubramaniam. The court will only exercise that when the need arises, before a decision is made,” the judge said, adding that “at this moment, these applications are rejected.”

The court said that Karpal did not have the legal standing to make the application as he was not a party to the trial. (Malaysiakini).

Why do we allow Bala to go free when he has a lot to answer in court, especially about the discrepencies in his first and second statutory declarations about Altantuya being Najib’s lover?

If indeed, Bala has lied about Najib, he too has to face the music. And we will all withdraw our incessant clamouring for Najib to appear in court, etc.

Yet, the court has stamped out Karpal just like that, though the latter says he will appeal to a higher court.

Even if Karpal Singh did not apply to the courts for Najib to stand trial as a witness in the Altantuya trials, the Prosecution team should have done that - in the interest of justice. They are the involved party, aren’t they?

But I suppose, the part about “interest of justice” is something that is questionable now.

Of course, we all know that Karpal’s application would be thrown out. In this country, there is no other way. The courts are perceived to be corrupted, and they want to continue being perceived like that.

Is this what we call wanting to reform the judiciary?

Tainted with 1988 crisis, to being contaminated by the one in 1998, and what do we have now in 2008? A total disease.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his minion Zaid Ibrahim must stop talking about law reforms. It’s become a total joke.
