Zahrain: I’ve been sacked Posted by He shouold be sacked for attempted corruption ! on February 14, 2010 at 00:40:01: 11 February 2010 - 01:44 PM Zahrain: I’ve been sacked PETALING JAYA: Rebel PKR lawmaker Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim claims he has been sacked as chairman of a state government-linked company for openly criticising Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. The Bayan Baru MP claimed that he had been relieved of his chairmanship of Island Golf Properties Bhd 12 days after he called Lim a dictator, chauvinist, and communist-minded leader. “The way I was sacked bears evidence of Lim’s dictatorial style of leadership. “Lim could not take criticism, and he treats government-linked companies (GLC) like his father’s property and sacks people at his whim and fancy,’’ said Zah-rain. He claimed that no notice or show cause letter were issued prior to his sacking. Zahrain said he was informed of the latest development by an acquaintance who told him that Lim had pushed for his sacking during the Penang Development Corporation board meeting. Island Golf Properties is a subsidiary of the corporation. Zahrain believed Lim had sacked him out of vengeance. “If Lim practises the principles of competency, accountability and transparency that he preaches, he should have issued a show cause letter first, and carried out a proper investigation to justify his action,’’ he said. Corporation officials when contacted referred the matter to Lim. “We cannot divulge what transpired at the meeting. “We cannot make any press statement on the matter. Ask the Chief Minister, please,’’ said an official who declined to be identified. Corporation director Lee Kah Choon, meanwhile, doubted that Zahrain had been sacked. “The decision to relieve Zahrain could only be made by the company’s board, not the corporation’s board. “Therefore, action against Zahrain should come from the company’s board,’’ he said.
