Three killed after head-on collision near Benta

A head-on collision between a lorry and a four-wheel drive vehicle at Km18, Jalan Lipis-Benta, Kuala Lipis on Wednesday afternoon saw three people killed on the spot.

According to the New Straits Times lorry driver, Kamaruddin Mohamed, 37, from Felda Lakum, Lanchang, Temerloh, died on the spot due to chest injuries in the 1pm incident near the Road Transport Department building at Benta here.

While the driver and passenger of the Nissan Navara - Tan Kok Ton, 44, from Klang, Selangor, and Ngoh Kam Wah, 51, from Ampang, Selangor - also died at the scene due to serious injuries.

Kuala Lipis police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob confirmed the incident, adding that Tan and Ngoh were both machine operators.

"Initial investigation revealed that Tan and his co-worker were on their way to Kuala Lipis from Bentong. The Navara was said to have swerved into the opposing lane and collided with the lorry," he said.

Azry said remains of the three victims had been sent to the Kuala Lipis Hospital for post-mortem.

He added that the police are investigating the case under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
