A national diving coach was charged with raping a national diver at a Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today.

Huang Qiang, a 35-year-old Malaysian citizen who migrated from China, claimed trial to raping the 20-year-old diver.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Dry Gym diving gymnasium, National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil on Sept 26.

The charge, under section 376 of the Penal Code, is punishable with a jail term up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Sessions Court judge Wan Mohd Norisham Wan Yaakob granted RM50,000 bail with two Malaysian sureties. Huang was ordered to surrender his passport to the court and report to the nearest police station twice a month.

According to theSun, the judge also ordered the accused not to approach the victim or the witnesses in the case. His bail would be revoked if he goes against the order.

Lawyer Cheow Wee held a watching brief for the victim's family.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafizzah Sauni had earlier objected to the granting of the bail. DPP Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi also appeared for prosecution while Mohd Hisham Md Nen represented the accused.
