A man was killed in a shootout with police at Jalan Kayu Madang in Telipok Kota Kinabalu, this morning.

In the 4am incident, the man, suspected to be involved in a series of house break-in cases in the district, died at the scene.

It was learnt that police, when patrolling the area, spotted the man riding a motorcycle suspiciously and tried to stop him for questioning.

As they approached him, the man pulled out a gun and open fire.

According to The New Straits Times, one of the policemen returned fire and hit the man.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra was spotted at the scene later but was not available for comment.
