Firemen went beyond the call of duty when they were tasked with helping an eight-year-old girl remove her left earring.

The incident unfolded at the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Services Department on Sunday about 2pm after her parents could not remove the earring.

According to Berita Harian, The parents had earlier taken her to a jewellery shop in Kuching to remove the earring which the girl had been using since she was four-years-old.

They decided to seek the help of the firemen after the workers at the jewellery shop also failed to remove the earring.

Department chief, Muhd Mirza Dzalmira Miraj, said they used some special equipment to remove the earring in about 10 minutes.

"We had to be extra careful. The girl was fine," he added.
