Despite many warnings from the police and stories on the media on scammers and their bag of tricks, there are still Malaysians who keep falling victim to them.

Worse still, and hard to comprehend is the fact that some of the victims come from professional backgrounds.

In the latest case reported, an accountant ended up RM250,000 poorer after being scammed into parting with his money.

According to the Star, he had first received a short text on Oct 6, stating that his credit card was used in a transaction in KLIA2.

Despite not even having a credit card, the accountant somehow responded to the text and later spoke to an 'officer' who told him his pin code had been hacked.

He was then persuaded to transfer his savings to another account into another 'protected' account and a total of seven transactions totalling almost a quarter million ringgit was transferred by the unsuspecting victim.

Of course, once done, that was the end of it and the scammers were never heard again.

Police are investigating the case.

One really wonders if an accountant can somehow fall for such tricks, how many more of those who do not know anything about banking would have fallen victim as well.

Always be alert, Malaysians. Scammers are circling like sharks, ready to attack.
